Here are 10 simple things you can do and the ammount carbon dioxide you’ll save.
Change a light bulb
Replace one regular light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb and you will have saved 150 pounds of carbon dioxide over a years time.
Don't drive as much
I know it's a pain, but if you were to walk, bike, carpool or take mass transit you’ll save one pound of carbon dioxide for every mile you don’t drive! Think about that over the course of a year!
Recycle more
You don't even have to get it all. Recycling just half of your household waste per year can save 2.400 pounds of carbon dioxide. You don't have to be a math wizard to figure it out if you were to actually manage to recycle ALL of it!
Check your tires
Keeping your tires inflated properly can improve gas mileage by more than 3%.
Every gallon of gasoline saved is 20 pounds of carbon dioxide that won't make it to the atmosphere. And over the course of the year, thats good for your wallet too!
Use less hot water
Heating water is an energy hog. You can use less hot water if you install a low flow showerhead (350 pounds of CO2 saved per year) and wash your clothes in cold or warm water (500 pounds saved per year). You could even try to cut some time off of those long morning showers!
Avoid products with a lot of packaging
You can save 1,200 pounds of carbon dioxide if you cut down your garbage by 10%.
Adjust your thermostat
Did you know that if you were to move your thermostat just 2 degrees in winter and up 2 degrees in summer you could save about 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year? You probably won't even notice but the Earth will!
Plant a tree
Planting ONE tree will eliminate over one ton of carbon dioxide over its lifetime.
Turn off electronic devices
Even something as simple as turning off your television, DVD player, stereo, and computer when you’re not using them can help save thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide every year.
If you start to do the math on some of this stuff if 10 or 100 or even 10,000 or more people started doing even a few of these things a day, we could help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by thousands of tons per year. Do your part and spread the word!
